The F355 set new standards for sports cars when it was launched in 1994.  Although an evolution of the 348, it was a major improvement on its predecessor. The newly developed aluminium 3.5 litre 90˚ V8 engine block had aluminium alloy pistons and titanium alloy connecting rods previously seen in Formula 1 engines.  The engine’s greatest enhancement was its five valves per cylinder, three intake and two exhaust, helping it to rev to 8500rpm and produce the highest specific output at the time of 109bhp per litre.

With its clean, pure styling of Pininfarina that looked amazing from any angle, gorgeous interior, and Formula 1 technology such as electronic damping, smooth under-body for increased airflow and down force, as well as the later addition of the F1 paddle shift to the high revving V8, the F355 secured itself as the most desirable Ferrari for years. Many prefer its looks and handling to its early successor, the dramatic 360 Modena.  The F355 has surely earned its status in supercar history.
